FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR OUR CHILDEN:

Dear Friends,

The continued civil war in our homeland for more than 20 years has caused severe hardship to our brothers and sisters still living in the region. One of the major problems is the welfare of children who have lost their parents in the war. They live in refugee camps or in homes run by welfare organisations or with relatives. They undergo enormous difficulties for their food, shelter and education. We owe a duty to help these children to return to normal life.

We propose to set up a fund to assist these children. Funds raised for this project will be deposited in fixed deposits in one of the national chartered banks in Sri Lanka, in Rupees, and the interest will be utilised towards financial help to these children. We plan to deposit a minimum of A$25,000 and expect to earn interest of 150,000 rupees as interest. Dr Sivathamil Selvi Thangmma Appakuddy and Aru Thirumurugan have agreed to function as trustees to this fund. Selection of needy children will be done by a panel appointed by them by calling application from needy children living in North-eastern Province of Sri Lanka.
